Playbook for Hermes x Memelord

Hermes speaks MCP, and Memelord is a hosted MCP server. Connect the two and your Hermes agent can search the template library, generate and edit image memes, render video memes, run pro video models (Kling, Genjutsu, Gemini Omni), run one-shot image tools, or hand a whole request to Jester — from any gateway your Hermes is connected to. Sign in with your Memelord account; there are no keys to mint or wrappers to write.

Two ways in, same tools either way:

  1. Hermes connector. Add Memelord as an MCP server inside Hermes (one click in Hermes Desktop, or a short config.yaml entry) and approve the sign-in in your browser.
  2. Hosted Memelord MCP. Point any MCP client at https://www.memelord.com/api/mcp as documented on the MCP & Skills page.

What is happening in the demo?

1. Chat

The user asks Hermes for a meme in a normal messaging app. No form, dashboard, or manual template selection is required.

2. Tool call

Hermes picks a Memelord MCP tool — generate_caption_meme for a classic template, generate_video_meme for an MP4, or run_agentto let Jester decide — and remembers the result for follow-up edits.

3. Reply

Image tools return a hosted URL immediately. Video and pro video tools return a job_id first; Hermes polls check_video_status and posts the finished MP4 back into the same chat.

Connect from Hermes

Hermes connects to remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP and handles OAuth 2.1 on its own. In Hermes Desktop, the Add to Hermes link above opens a confirmation with the Memelord server pre-filled. Everywhere else, add this entry to ~/.hermes/config.yaml:

# ~/.hermes/config.yaml
mcp_servers:
  memelord:
    url: "https://www.memelord.com/api/mcp"
    auth: oauth

Then sign in once. Hermes opens your browser (or prints the link), you approve the connection with your Memelord account, and Hermes keeps the token refreshed from there. A running gateway picks up the new server on its own; an open CLI session reloads with /reload-mcp.

hermes mcp login memelord # approve in the browser
hermes mcp test memelord # lists the Memelord tools

Running Hermes on a headless box? Complete hermes mcp login over SSH port-forwarding as described in the Hermes MCP docs. You can disconnect Hermes at any time from Settings → Developer → Connected Apps.

Or connect the hosted MCP from any client

The same server works from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, Muse, and any other MCP client. Point it at https://www.memelord.com/api/mcp and approve the sign-in; client-by-client setup and the authentication details live on the MCP & Skills page.

What Hermes can call

The full Memelord MCP tool surface, grouped the same way as the tool table in the MCP docs. Billable tools draw from your usage balance based on the underlying generation cost; discovery, uploads, status checks, and account info are free so Hermes can plan before it spends.

420 free image memes, on us. Connecting from Hermes over OAuth gives your Memelord account 420image generations that never touch your usage balance — once per account, for life, across every Hermes install you sign in from. They cover generate_caption_meme, generate_ai_meme, edit_meme; one successful call is one generation, and a failed call is not counted. Video, the pro video models, run_agent, and run_image_tool bill your balance as usual, and so do image memes once the 420 are used up. Other MCP hosts are unchanged.

Things to ask Hermes

"What meme templates are trending right now?"

"Make a meme about founders debugging webhooks at 2am"

"Make it more savage"

"Turn that into a video meme"

"Put this photo of Sam into the Drake template"

"Generate a 5-second Kling clip of a cat shipping code on Friday"

Hermes reads the tool schemas itself, so follow-ups like “make it more savage” become an edit_memecall on the previous result, and “turn that into a video” becomes a generate_video_meme job that Hermes polls until the MP4 is ready. Photos and clips a user sends in chat go through upload_media, which returns a URL the other tools accept.
